County Thrift Store Reopens in New Location on Vista Parkway

The County Thrift Store operated by the Fixed Assets Section has moved to a new warehouse near Vista Center. The new address is 2455 Vista Parkway.

The Fixed Assets Management Office has approximately 22,000 square feet in the building it shares with Purchasing. Of that, 18,300 square feet is dedicated to processing stock and displaying goods.

The new facility enables Fixed Assets to have all its personnel under one roof, instead of being spread out in three different places as before. Manager Angelo DiPierro said this should significantly improve efficiency and customer service.

The County Thrift Store offers cars and trucks available for auction (sealed bids), as well as office furniture, computers, TV’s and electronics, cameras, jewelry, lawn equipment and much more.

For directions and a list of merchandise and auction items, go to pbcgov.com, click on the Business link near the top, then click on County Surplus/Thrift Store in the drop-down column. Sales are usually held on the third Saturday of the month. There are no buyers’ premiums, but you must pre-register to buy or bid.  You can sign up at pbcgov.com/ofmb/financial/thriftstore/registration.

County’s Information Technology Services Rank Third in U.S. Among Large Counties

The Center for Digital Government, in conjunction with the National Association of Counties (NACo), conducts the annual Digital Counties Survey to evaluate how county governments are using information and communication technology to provide public services.

The survey identifies the very best examples of how counties are aligning technology to support strategic priorities and create crucial operational and administrative efficiencies.

Thousands of U.S. counties were invited to participate in the annual survey which focused on online service delivery, infrastructure, architecture and governance models to identify how counties provide for innovation and change to transform business processes. The survey identifies best practices and recognizes the top 10 counties that provide exemplary electronic services to the public, their employees and business partners.

Palm Beach County was ranked third in the nation as one of the most digitally advanced county governments among all large counties (population exceeding 500,000). This award recognizes the county’s advanced technology infrastructure which is the primary responsibility of the Information Systems Services (ISS) Department.

The top 10 digital counties will be publicized in an upcoming issue of Governing magazine.

Donate Shoes at County Nature Centers

Did you know that more than 350 million pairs of shoes are sent to landfills each year? The Shoes for the Cure program aims to reduce that amount by providing bins where people can drop off their old or unwanted shoes to be recycled instead of going into landfills. The shoes you donate will be cleaned and refurbished to be sold in second-hand shops, or will be processed to become rubberized athletic surfaces.

The county’s nature centers (Daggerwing, Green Cay, Okeeheelee) are participating in the shoe recycling program and have bins for shoe collection.  So, the next time you visit, be sure to bring your old shoes with you!  For more information, visit http://pbcgov.com/parks/nature and click on “Shoe Recycling Program” in the left column, or call 966-6600.
