HISTORY The Tourist Development Council was created by the Board of County Commissioners on March 3, 1981. The Council is composed of 9 members including: the Chair of the County Commission; two (2) elected municipal officials; three (3) owner/operators of motels, hotels or other tourist accommodations in Palm Beach County subject to tax; and, three (3) persons involved in and who have demonstrated interest in the tourist industry but are not owner/operators of motels, hotels or other tourist accommodations in Palm Beach County. The function of the Tourist Development Council is to prepare and submit to the Board of County Commissioners a plan for tourist development including the approximate cost or expense allocation for specific projects or special uses, such as beaches. Tourist Development Tax revenues allocated tobeaches is 14.4% of the first three cents less convention center and special events fund allocations. HISTORY The South Lake Worth Inlet Advisory Committee was created on June 18, 1996 by the Board of County Commissioners. The council members are appointed by the County Commission and confirmed by the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation. Membership is made up of: Two (2) elected municipal officials, one each from the Town of Manalapan and the Town of Ocean Ridge; the remaining members represent: the Marine Industry Council, an environmental organization, coastal related expertise, Parks and Recreation Administrative, and one with no special requirement. The function of the South Lake Worth Inlet Advisory Committee is to advise the Board of County Commissioners on improvements, operations, maintenance and enhancement of the inlet and adjacent properties, to assist in the development, coordination and public review of the Inlet Management Plan and to review the results of ongoing monitoring to determine if management goals are being met. MEETING SCHEDULE Meetings are scheduled to be held on the second Thursday of every other month beginning with January. The meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and are held at the Town of Ocean Ridge Commission Chambers, 6450 N. Ocean Boulevard, Ocean Ridge, Florida. The Palm Beach County Artificial Reef & Estuarine Enhancement Committee (AREEC) meets at the West Palm Beach Fishing Club [External Link] (WPBFC) on the first Thursday of every odd numbered month (e.g., Jan, March, May, July, Sept, Nov). The WPBFC is located in downtown West Palm Beach on the waterfront at the corner of Flager Drive and 5th Street. Meetings begin at 9:00am and are usually completed by 11:00am. The public is encouraged to attend. In addition to regular Committee business, there is always time for visitors to make comments to the Committee members and talk to County staff. The meeting schedule is subject to change and parking at the Fishing Club is limited. The new Palm Beach Countywide Coastal Council will meet semi-annually and will serve as an informal forum for the exchange of information and to keep its members educated about protection and enhancement of the Atlantic coast in Palm Beach County. The first meeting of the Coastal Council will be in September and will be held at the Port of Palm Beach. Membership on the council is by execution of a counterpart interlocal agreement.
