Red Reef Park

Red Reef Park
In 1997, the restoration of Red Reef Park involved the removal of 1.2 acres of exotic vegetation, chiefly Australian pine and Brazilian pepper. In addition, 1.2 acres of mangrove wetland was created on top of the footprint of the removed vegetation. Approximately 7,500 cubic yards of spoil was scraped down and removed. Local students and spirited community volunteers planted over 5,000 red mangrove seedlings. Total project costs were $120,000. $60,000 came from a Florida Navigation District (FIND) Waterway Assistance Program Grant and the balance was derived from County Vessel Registration Fees and in-kind services.
