Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area (JILONA)

 

Jupiter Inlet Outstanding Natural Area (JILONA) is situated adjacent to where salt water from the Atlantic Ocean meets freshwater from both the Loxahatchee River and Indian River making this estuarine ecosystem both rich and biologically diverse. JILONA is owned and managed by several entities, including ERM and the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management. (BLM)

Wetland Restoration Project-1999

 
Jupiter Inlet Natural Area 1 Jupiter Inlet Natural Area 2
  • Created 2 acres of tidal wetland ponds and channels.
  • Boater access is restricted, however, canoes and kayaks are welcome.
  • Project was funded through 2 grants from South Florida Water Management District and National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
