NENA SLIDESHOW

Welcome to NENA!

NENA NEWS

NENA stretches from Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach County, north to Bridge Road in Martin County, and from the Atlantic Ocean west to Lake Okeechobee. NENA includes over 165,000 acres of natural Florida lands and more than a dozen different activity & education centers that provide information about the area's natural and human history.

Each place in NENA is a different size, from a few to tens-of-thousands of acres. There are several different governmental agencies and non-governmental organizations managing the individual NENA places.

The NENA Vision

Palm Beach County, with its partners and the public, developed a visionary plan for ways to enhance and protect the conservation lands in NENA while increasing recreational opportunities between and among the individual areas. NENA partners have developed a forum for land managers to coordinate issues of cross-boundary access, complementary facilities, visitor registration, signage and protection of historic landscapes.

NENA Now

This amazing collection of public lands provides a wide range of nature-based outdoor recreational opportunities from bird watching in an area open only to foot traffic to hunting in an area accessible by off-road vehicles.

    NENA includes:
    • 14 miles of Atlantic Ocean coastline
    • Loxahatchee Wild & Scenic River
    • Two State Parks
    • National Wildlife Refuge
    • Links to the 110-mile Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail & Big Water Heritage Trail
    • 25 Natural Areas, Preserves & Parks
    • Over 300 miles of hiking & horse trails
    • Three Wildlife Management Areas

Many features within the NENA footprint are currently open to the public. See the NENA map for locations of conservation lands open to some form of public use and activity & education centers where you can learn about what you may see and hear in the wild.

The NENA Future

The NENA Places, including natural areas and activity & education centers, will be connected by unique trail and information systems to create a world class destination. Five NENA connector trails will be constructed with Riverbend Park as the hub. See the NENA Map for the locations of connector trails and NENA places including activity and education centers.
