Lt. Jeff Annas, a 25 year veteran of Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue, passed away suddenly on March 30th, 2008. During his 25 years of service, Lt. Annas was known for his commitment to the community, winning numerous service awards. Lt. Annas was also an avid runner and was working on organizing a 5k charity run when he passed away. Please join us in honoring Jeff at the 1st Annual Jeff Annas Memorial Firefighters 5k Run. Proceeds to benefit the Palm Beach County Firefighters Benevolent Fund.

The race will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008 ("B" Shift), at Okeeheelee Park. Start time will be 8:00 a.m. Please arrive at least 30 minutes early in order to pick up your race bib and timing chip.

About the Race:The race will be held at Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach. The course runs on roads and paved bike trails, and will be timed by Accuchip timing. All registered runners will receive a free "fire department" style t-shirt. Medals will be awarded to the top 3 people in each age group. There will also be a firefighter division and a Fire-Rescue employee division. The race will honor not only Jeff but all Fire-Rescue employees who serve their community. The pipes and drums will be there to play, and the Hazardous Materials Team will provide cooling relief with a decon shower. Food and refreshments will be provided both pre-and post race.

Commemorative Coins: In addition to a free t-shirt, participants will have the opportunity to purchase a Fire Department Race Commemorative Challenge Coin. The coin will reflect the tradition of the fire department challenge coin and be specific to this year's race. You can purchase the challenge coin for $10 during the registration process at www.active.com. Coins may also be available on race day, but cannot be guaranteed.
