Captain Don Delucia, PIO Palm Beach County Fire Rescue's Public Information Officer is a member of the Fire Administrator's staff and serves as the official channel of communication between the community and Fire-Rescue. Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue maintains frequent and close contact with the news media. Radio, television, and news-papers, both locally and across the country, regularly contact the department seeking information about fire and emergency medical service activities. The Public Information Officer also receives regular inquiries from community organizations, business and industry groups, and other governmental agencies regarding community involvement and safety issues. Liaison with these organizations, including coordination of major community and media events involving department personnel, is also an important function of this office. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue's Public Information Officers (PIO's) respond to newsworthy incidents 24 hours a day and assist Incident Commanders with press information and interviews. By functioning as the news media's incident liaison, the PIO's maximize the flow of information while minimizing the demands placed upon the Incident Commander. The PIO's are often able to clarify the Department's actions during a major incident or widespread disaster and thus help the media avoid speculation or misinterpretation of Palm Beach County Fire Rescue operations. |
