April 8, 2009

County Commissioners Jess Santamaria and Jeff Koons, along with officials from the Village of Royal Palm Beach and the Indian Trail Improvement District, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Royal Palm Beach on April 8 to open the county's new Western Parkway reliever road. The new two-lane parkway, known previously as the Acreage reliever road and/or State Road 7 extension, will enable thousands of commuters from The Acreage to bypass village streets to get to and from Okeechobee Boulevard and State Road 7.

Western Parkway runs approximately 3½ miles north and west from the intersection of Okeechobee and State Road 7 through the beautiful Pond Cypress Natural Area to Persimmon Boulevard in The Acreage. The reliever road was built at cost of approximately $25 million, and funding is in place to extend Western Parkway an additional mile to 60th Street North in about two years.
