Commissioner Kanjian Salutes Veterans At "Stand Down House" Meeting
August 6, 2008 Commissioner Bob Kanjian recently joined Congressman Ron Klein in a meeting to commend veterans for their military service and review governmental benefits available to all former service members. The meeting was held at the “Stand Down House” located at 4309 Davis Road in the unincorporated area west of Lake Worth. The Stand Down House is a non-profit agency that has provided health care services for homeless veterans since May 2000. Since its inception, the Stand Down House has reintegrated more than 1,200 homeless veterans back into the community. To all veterans, the term “Stand Down” has a deep and special significance as it refers to a combat unit being relieved of duty from the front line because that unit has served honorably and courageously in battle and it now deserves time for rest and recuperation from combat. The term “Stand Down” is symbolic of the service this agency provides to our country’s veterans.
