| Who: | County Commissioner Bob Kanjian, Lake Worth Mayor Jeff Clemens |
A joint ceremony with Palm Beach County Commissioners and the City of Lake Worth will be held on Aug. 20 at 1:30 p.m. to mark the start of demolition of the old bridge at the Intracoastal Waterway. The old bridge is located just south of the Lake Worth Municipal Golf Course and north of the present bridge.
The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners recently approved an interlocal agreement with the City of Lake Worth regarding the Snook Islands Natural Area boardwalk project. The demolition is the first stage of this joint project to construct a 500-foot boardwalk, gazebo and fishing pier to complement the Snook Islands Natural Area to the north. The project will also include four floating finger docks, 20 car/boat trailer parking spaces and six additional parking spaces for general use. The old bridge will be used as an artificial reef and breakwater feature.
Project partners include the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners, Florida Inland Navigation District, Metropolitan Planning Organization and City of Lake Worth. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2009.
