At the October 7, 2008 Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action:

Water Resources Task Force – adopted a resolution supporting the formation of a water resources task force to identify and evaluate efficient and cost-effective opportunities in the provision of future water supplies and appointed Commissioner Jeff Koons to chair the 11-member panel.

Convention Center hotel – approved an agreement with Ocean Properties, LTD for the mutual release and termination of the contract to construct a hotel next to the County Convention Center.

AFCO Constructors – approved the termination of AFCO Constructors, Inc. and the hiring of David Brooks Enterprises, Inc. to complete the Concourse C gate expansion project at Palm Beach International Airport.

Campus Management Corp. – approved a job growth incentive grant of $60,000, the county’s required 20 percent local match, to Boca Raton-based Campus Management Corp. The agreement requires the company to create 60 new jobs and retain 316 jobs at an average annual salary of $75,000.

Criminal Justice Commission – approved interlocal agreements totaling $1.375 million to fund the third year of the Youth Violence Prevention Project. The cities of West Palm Beach, Riviera Beach, Lake Worth and Boynton Beach are contributing a total of $1.168 million. Services provided by the project include the operation of youth empowerment centers serving approximately 400 young people.

Phil Foster Park – approved contracts in the amount of $1.042 million and $451,570 with West Construction, Inc. for construction of a two-story multipurpose building and a Sheriff’s Marine Unit building at Phil Foster Park.

Affordable housing – approved State Housing Initiative Partnership (SHIP) agreements in the amount of $390,000 to purchase two new single-family homes in Lantana and West Palm Beach; $150,000 to rehabilitate a six-unit rental development in Delray Beach for very low-income families; and $250,000 to provide rental housing for nine extremely low and very low-income families. These are state funds that require no local match.

Pahokee parks – agreed to reallocate $100,000 from the 2002 bond referendum earmarked for the Prince Theater in Pahokee to instead be used to improve several parks in Pahokee.
