Commissioner Jess Santamaria held a casual town hall chat on November 18 to provide some feedback and observations on his first three years in office. Commissioner Santamaria spent about an hour reviewing a series of achievements and a few of the disappointments since being elected to the District 6 seat in November 2006.

The commissioner said one of the most significant positive developments coincidently occurred earlier that day when the Board of County Commissioners, sitting as the Solid Waste Authority, agreed to build a waste-to-energy plant, which eliminates the need for a new landfill in western Palm Beach County. He talked about ethics and integrity, and the need for citizens to be vigilant and to demand honesty and accountability of their elected officials. Questions from the audience touched on the proposed inspector general’s office, the need for a forensic auditor, and local water quality and land use issues.

Due to the holidays, there will be no community forum in December. The next community forum will be on Wednesday, January 20, 2010.
