BCC Briefs

At the May 15 , 2007 Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action:

Callery Judge Grove – denied an application by the owners of Callery-Judge Grove to a build a “new town” with 10,000 homes and 3.8 million square feet of non-residential space on their 3,900 acres in Loxahatchee.

Beach Damage – learned that state and federal emergency funds will be made available to help offset the estimated $5 million needed to restore sand dunes damaged by high seas caused by a subtropical storm. The project will first involve relocating endangered sea turtle nests.

Carlton Oaks – accepted the donation of a 78.2-acre preserve from the Carlton Oaks Homeowners Association to become part of the Loxahatchee Slough Natural Area, once permits are obtained from the South Florida Water Management District and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Pal Mar – reappointed Commissioner Marcus as the County’s voting representative at the annual landowners meeting of the Pal Mar Water Control District.

Convention Center Garage – approved the transfer of $3.47 million of bed-tax money for design and other costs associated with constructing a parking garage and tunnel at the County Convention Center.

Road Improvements – awarded a contract in the amount of $1.55 million to Ranger Construction Industries for improvements to the intersection of Royal Palm Beach and Orange boulevards in The Acreage.

PBIA – awarded a contract in the amount of $1.8 million to Hypower Inc. for improvements to roadway, parking and terminal signs at Palm Beach International Airport. The project will be funded by revenue from passenger facility charges.

Palm Tran – agreed to donate three retired Palm Tran buses, one each to Nelson Outreach Ministries, Inc., the Sheriff’s Office and the Urban League of Palm Beach County, Inc.
