Community Connections

Thank you for participating in the Palm Beach County Office of Community Revitalization hosted the Countywide Community Revitalization Team (CCRT) Community Connections Meeting.

The CCRT Community Connections meetings are designed to enhance community civic engagement and public participation. The meeting’s agenda is comprised of the following segments: a Commissioner Forum, a mini workshop, department updates, and residents’ comments.

Palm Beach County Commissioner Paulette Burdick was in attendance at this meeting to respond to questions from forum participants and share her own views on the importance of community participation in the decisions that affect their neighborhoods and using the many resources the Office of Community Revitalization offers to assist them in improving their communities.

The topic of the mini workshop was “Choice Programs.” The Palm Beach County Office of Community Revitalization hosted this mini workshop to help residents learn about the Choice Programs offered by the School District of Palm Beach County.

Barbara Terembes, Director of the Choice and Career Options Department, provided an overview of the Choice Programs, which are designed to give elementary, middle and high schools students a unique opportunity for indepth experiences and study in specific areas of interest. Each Choice Program emphasizes a specific theme. Parents are encouraged to become actively involved in “choosing” the program most appropriate for the interests, needs, and abilities of their child.

Themes like Information Technology, Culinary Arts, Performing Arts, Medical Sciences, and more help students get a taste of – and a head start in - the areas that interest students most. Admission is determined by a lottery that is based on the number of applications received and the number of openings for a school program. Choice programs are open to all Palm Beach County students.

OCR's Mini Workshops are designed to engage, inform and educate citizens, and features varied topics of interest to neighborhood organizations and residents alike. They are a great opportunity for neighborhood leaders to interact and learn from one another.
