Homestead Exemption & Trusts

In some cases, property owners may wish to transfer title of their homestead property to a Trust. Our office has streamlined the process to simplify the change.

A notarized Certificate of Trust needs to be filed with the Property Appraiser's Office to ensure the property owner continues to receive the annual $25,000 Homestead Exemption benefit. It is not necessary to reapply for the original Homestead Exemption benefit.

The Certificate of Trust should be signed in the presence of a notary public by the property owner or a representative with Power of Attorney. A copy of the deed and copy of the document authorizing power of attorney should be submitted with the Certificate of Trust.

Our office will notify you that your property is being transferred to the designated trust.
