Scholarships
Palm Beach County Property Appraiser Gary R. Nikolits, CFA, presented $1,000 scholarships to five college-bound students Wednesday, May 14, 2008. There were 105 applicants this year. Funds are raised through volunteer employee donations from participants in Friday Casual-Dress Day. An Employee Scholarship Committee selects the winners. This is the 15th consecutive year the Property Appraiser’s Office has awarded scholarships to local high school seniors. With the 2008 scholarships, the Property Appraiser’s Office has awarded $85,000 in scholarships. All five students plan to attend colleges in Florida. The winners: William F. Brown from Education Resource Center in West Palm Beach. He will attend Palm Beach Community College. Chandela Elliott, Inlet Grove High School in Rivera Beach. She will attend the University of South Florida in Tampa. Kirsten M. Hurlston, Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach. She will attend Flagler College in St. Augustine. Gaetano V. Murphy, Jupiter Community High School. He will attend Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. James D. Thomas, Palm Beach Central High School in West Palm Beach. He will attend the University of Florida in Gainesville. To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be a resident of Palm Beach County and have a 3.0 GPA.
