Permit Types and Application Sufficiency Checklists

Building permits vary in complexity, and in the review paths that they must follow to secure required approvals. Therefore, permit applications are grouped into various types. Generally, the lower the number associated with the permit type, the less complex is the proposed improvement, requiring a less complicated permit review process, and resulting in faster permit processing times.

The table below describes the individual "Permit Types". Once the application review type has been determined, submittal requirements should be identified and fulfilled. By clicking on the heading of the specific permit type, you will go to the "Application Sufficiency Checklist" for that specific permit type.

These checklists are concise guidelines to minimum submittal requirements for review of the proposed construction and permit application. They are not intended to be comprehensive in nature. Specific work may require additional documentation at the discretion of the authority having jurisdiction. Application checklists are a useful tool for improving the quality of the permit application submittal. Experience has shown that the quality of the permit application submittal directly affects the length of time for review and permit issuance.

After compiling the permit application documents, the completed application package should then be submitted to Building Division application intake. Refer to the section "Building Division Office Locations" for information on where to submit.

After the application packages are submitted and the required review deposit is paid, the application is circulated to the individual agencies/sections/areas within the Permit Center process for review. Once all agency comments are satisfied and signed off, the Building Division Data Processing Section will issue the requested permit. The customer will be contacted when the permit has been issued or in the event additional information required.
